Elia Lavellan watches as Solas paints another fresco. Her gaze catches on his hands, pale with splashes of plaster, his fingers long and elegant and grasping the brush just so. His sleeves are pushed up to his elbows, and she admires the tracing of his veins along the lean lines of his forearms.
Her quixotic lover will toil all night to render a masterpiece in full, but when the candlelight burns low, she discovers that Solas keeps a store of energy for something more than painting.
For real though, I might have ideas for how a Niloy baby fic would go. I might even have a rough outline for what it would be like. it’s possible. No guarantees. But whether I ever actually write it depends on what happens with the sequel, so…. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
As for the mother’s bane while in the auxiliary core? Ikrie brought it for her, of course!! What kind of friend would Ikrie be if she didn’t remind Aloy to take her birth control when her husband is dying of pneumonia?? 😂
Thanks for the ask! You make me laugh too much!! xoxo
Honestly… I’m also worried that Nil won’t be in the sequel, given that he can be killed. Guerilla released a really cool infographic on the one-year anniversary of the game which showed the percentage of players who spared vs. killed Nil, and Nil was spared in 54% of playthroughs.
That’s not much more than half the time… so I wonder whether the writers would be willing to invest time in continuing Nil’s mini-narrative or character development if he’s dead in half of the fandom’s playthroughs. (Keep in mind I’m not sure exactly how they obtained these stats, especially given that people have multiple playthroughs and even I killed Nil one time JUST TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN THEN I IMMEDIATELY RELOADED AND SAVED HIS FINE ASS OK)
That being said, it’s clear that the writers for his character had something intriguing in mind for his backstory. There’s his poetic vagueness about his past, and there’s Janeva having an odd degree of sympathy for him even though she clearly prefers the Old Way of Carja Justice (i.e. death sentence lol), and there are those soldiers who comment about him when you find him before the final battle:
Guard 1: Isn’t that… him? From the Battle of the Daunt? Guard 2: Can’t be. Cinnabar Sands was before that, and there were no survivors. Nil: Well, I don’t like to boast… Guard 1: Oh Sun, keep the Shadow from falling upon me.
TL;DR – I’m also worried that Nil won’t be in the sequel. However, I think there’s so much potential for him in the sequel, since there’s clearly more to him than meets the eye, and obviously I would love (L O V E) to see him show up.
And if he doesn’t show up, I’ll just host an online grieving party and we can all cry together.
Solas’ paintings… are not just paintings. They are frescoes.
I tend to be silently bothered by fanfic or fanart of Lavellan or others
related to him “helping” him paint, drawing cute little smileys or something on
them because he would never in a million years would allow that to happen. It’s
a sweet mental image, very cute and fun, and several of them are hilarious, don’t
get me wrong, but I have trouble reconciling those with the frescoes he does.
The rest is under a Read More because this is seriously long.
Reblogging for Solas and His Interests Day for Solas Positivity Week because I seriously couldn’t come up with anything to top what I did here (I did try).
Thank you SO MUCH to the ever-talented @nsfwfrosch for this ko-fi sketch of Aloy and Nil. I will never NOT commission something when you do those events ❤️
Many of these, especially the top one, inspired by @pikapeppa’s wonderful fic series, “The World and All It’s Lessons: A Song of Aloy and Nil”. It’s such an amazing read, I really recommend it, especially if you’re into longfics and slow burn!
By the Sun, I’m so pleased and DELIGHTED that you loved my series so much!! Thank you so much for the rec!
