On International Women’s Day, I’ve decided on a new tradition: I’m going to toot my own horn. We women find it so easy to say what we admire about our friends and families, but we often struggle to compliment ourselves, and that’s just not right, ok? So on this day, here’s what I’m proud of:
1) I’m a good writer. I wrote Stormbirds and Stalkers in a month last year and I’m more proud of my collection of fanfic than I am of my Master’s thesis. #realtalk 2) I’m very empathetic and a good listener. 3) I’m good at my job and my patients like me. 4) My ear piercings. I’ve got 11 in total and I keep accumulating them every year or two, and I wear only yellow gold like the fancy bitch I am, and I think they look cool, thanks very much. 5) I beat my Horizon Zero Dawn on NG+ Ultra Hard. SO PROUD OF MYSELF OK?? AND NIL IS PROUD OF ME TOO.

1. What do you do? Speech-Language Pathologist. I work at hospitals with adults. I help adults who can’t swallow or talk/read/understand to do those things good.
2. Is there a hobby you really wish to do but still can’t do? DRAW. OMFG YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I WISH I COULD PROPERLY DRAW.
3. Favorite video game and why? Horizon Zero Dawn. There are so many reasons, god damn… Let’s go with this: the trailer showed a tribal-looking girl taking down a robot dinosaur with a bow and arrow. I’m like, “what nonsense is this?” And then you play the game and EVERYTHING MAKES FUCKING SENSE. AND EVERY DAMN CHARACTER, EVEN THE ONES YOU HATE, ARE PERFECT AND AMAZING. And also the moral of the story is chilling and on-point and so very relevant.

5. What’s behind your tumblr username? Pickapeppa is a Jamaican sauce (my mom and her family were born in Jamaica). I changed the first part to “pika” because of Pikachu.

9. What do you think about horror movies? Hahaha. Hahahahahahaahaaaa. I’m terrible about them. I watched a ton of them in high school and then I think I got over-sensitized to them to the point that I need to be accompanied to the shower after watching one for fear of being massacred in the shower. And yet I still sometimes request to watch them because I hate myself, apparently? My fiancé loves this, I assure you.
10. Do you have a preference over a male or female protagonist? Hmmm… not really. But in games where you’re given a choice, I always pick female.
11. How long have you been on Tumblr? And what was your inspiration in starting your page? I’ve been on Tumblr since… uhh… vaguely maybe May 2017? So like… 9 months? I started the page because I started writing fanfic and wanted to promote my stuff, to be totally honest. I still use it for that, but the main reasons I love Tumblr are 1) the fanart – great place to find fanart! – but more importantly 2) THE COMMUNITY. I’ve made or found so many lovely friends through Tumblr and I appreciate every one of you who has reached out to me. Genuinely and truly. Lipstick or Chapstick: chapstick. I never wear lipstick.
Jackets or Hoodies: Jackets. I have like 20… they’re more stylish than hoodies. Not that I’m particularly stylish… @makocartwheels knows my struggles 😂
Last Movie: The Shape of Water. I liked it, but in all honesty, I think it got overhyped for me? Also, given my profession (speech-language pathologist) I take huge issue with the idea that her “vocal cords were cut” by incisions to the sides of her neck, and then that she has to use ASL because of that – okay, you know what, I’ll sit down and shut up about it. It’s fine. It’s fine.
Top 3 Shows: aaaaaAAAHHHH I have to pick only three?? Okay, at this moment while I’m put on the spot, I’ll say Altered Carbon (WATCH IT, IT’S GREAT), Mad Men, and Better Call Saul.

1. What is the first thing you do in the morning? Hit the snooze button. No joke. Fuck mornings.
2. What was the last book you read? Milk and Honey, by Rupi Kaur. It’s a poetry collection – I usually don’t like poetry that much but I LOVED this book.
3. What consumes your mind? What do you think about most often? Uhhhh…. The next piece of Aloy/Nil smut or fluff I’m going to write? Is it bad if this is like 90% true? HAHAHAHA… FML.
4. PC or Console? Console. PS4 specifically. I haven’t played a game on PC since Diablo.
5. What draws you to a character? – Characters in general: a good backstory. A character who’s not holier-than-thou or too much of a goody-good. Importantly, a character with emotional range and complexity. Prime examples: Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn (and uh like every fucking character from HZD actually), Garrus Vakarian from Mass Effect, Nathan Drake (and Sam Drake!) from Uncharted. – Love interest characters: I have a terrible weakness for the Bad Boy (or girl!) with Complicated Pasts/Secret Pain/a Tender Heart (whether the complicated past/secret pain/tender heart is canon or just my own HC). Examples: Nil from HZD (#1 Murder Husband), Reyes Vidal from Mass Effect, Damon Salvatore from Vampire Diaries, Aria T’Loak from Mass Effect.
6. What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done? HAH. Nothing. I’m boring. If I had to pick, I guess I’d say moving from my home city (Toronto) to an unfamiliar city (Montreal) where I knew nobody. I’m a homebody and a scaredy cat who gets homesick really easily. It was easily the best choice I’ve ever made for myself – I made some amazing BFFs, met my fiancé, finished two Master’s degrees and fell in love with the city itself.
7. What is something most people don’t know about you? I’ve got a raging bitch hidden beneath this cute little smile. HAHAHAH.
8. What is your favorite movie? Her, with Scarlet Johanssen and Joaquim Phoenix. Incredible sci-fi and incredible romance movie, with an incredible soundtrack by Arcade Fire.
9. What are your goals for 2018? Uhhhh… go on a fucking trip somewhere? I didn’t travel anywhere in 2017 and it’s kind of making my soul slowly die.
10. Do you create playlists of songs? YES. EVERY MONTH. FOR EVERY MOOD. FOR EVERY FIC. I have two Aloy/Nil playlists and a Reyes Vidal (SEX) playlist. I’m a playlist fiend.
11. What is one thing you love about yourself? I was talking to @makocartwheels about the fact that women tend not to praise themselves for their strengths and good qualities enough, so how about I go against that and make a little list of things I like about my damn self? – I’m a good writer. I write the smuts and the relationships good. – I can use liquid eyeliner to do a fine cat’s eye, thank you very much. – I’m a good listener and I can see both sides of (almost) any story. I’m so sympathetic/empathetic that I’m pretty sure I would get Harley Quinned if I ever met the Joker. – I’m a good cook and baker. – I’m an excellent flirt (not that I do that much anymore – see above mentioned fiancé).
