Fenris/f!Hawke: The Right Moment

pikapeppa:

To kick off @dadrunkwriting Friday, I picked two prompts for myself: “How long did you think we could do this?” and “You’re so cute when you’re grumpy.” (The latter is sooOoOOoo Fenris.)

Read on AO3 instead.

“Yes,” Hawke whispered.

Fenris inhaled leisurely. Without opening his eyes, he murmured, “You can’t go on much longer.”

“I can,” she breathed. “Just… give me time… oh fuck.”

A soft clink of coins and a surprised mrow filtered into Fenris’s ears. He cracked open one eye just in time to see the stray cat roll onto its belly on the carpet, shedding the pile of coppers that Hawke had so painstakingly piled on its belly while it was sleeping.

The cat gave Hawke a deeply affronted look, then darted away up the stairs. Fenris smirked and closed his eyes again, then folded his arms behind his head. “How long did you think we could do this?”

We?” she said archly. “There’s no ‘we’ about it. I made it to thirteen coppers without any help from you, thank you very much.”

“You’re right,” Fenris replied. “I don’t know why I would insert myself into such a foolish affair. This ridiculous excuse for a pastime was entirely your making.”

“Damn right,” she agreed cheerfully. “Now help me catch the cat before Anders gets here.”

“No,” Fenris replied. He flexed his toes; the warmth from the fire in Hawke’s study felt nice against his bare feet.

There was a brief silence, then Hawke tutted loudly. “You unhelpful lazy slob. Remind me why I let you in my house?”

“I can leave if you’d prefer,” he offered lazily.

“No no,” Hawke grumbled. “Make yourself comfortable. Lie there like a lump. See if I care.” She flicked his earlobe as she pushed herself to her feet.

Fenris/f!Hawke: Baby, Come Back And Fight With Me

In which the showdown with Hadriana takes place, and Fenris and Hawke finally fall into bed together. THE SMUT HAS ARRIVED. But also angst and feels because you all know what happens after the smut ;;__;;

This one is very long (>13,000 words oh god what am I doing someone stop me) so I won’t post the whole thing on Tumblr… unless someone wants me to…? But here is an excerpt. Read the whole thing on AO3

*****************

Fenris had lost count of the number of times he’d walked away from Hawke.

It was always out of anger. She’d make a joke about blood magic, or she would undermine the Templars, or she’d take Anders’s side in an argument, and Fenris saw red. The rage would boil up in his chest, thick and cloying until it poured from his lips like lava spilling over.

The worst part was that Hawke never got angry in return. Fenris would yell at her, and she would try to make him smile, and he would feel guilty for yelling, but the guilt only made him madder. It was better for them both if he simply walked away.

Once he was alone in the dankness of his mansion, the rage would melt away, and he would remember how loyal she was. When anyone spat at him or called him a knife-ear or a pet, Hawke cut them down with the witty blade of her tongue. When he flung himself sword-first at any blighted slaver who crossed his path, she never hesitated to back him up with storms of fire and lightning. She defended Merrill and Anders, it was true, but she supported Fenris just as fiercely.

And she never held his anger against him. She never told him off for giving her a piece of his mind. After storming away from Hawke, Fenris would sit alone at the table in his mansion and he’d think about the openness of her smile. He’d remember the playful tilt of her head, the warm curl in her voice as she teased him for brooding, and before he knew it, his feet would be carrying him back to her side for the next sorry adventure.

He’d walked away from her so many times that it was now a running joke amongst their little group. But no matter the reason, no matter the cause, Fenris always came back.

The one time he didn’t come back was the one time he didn’t walk away in anger.

It was also the one time when Hawke came after him instead.

OC Flirting Meme

tagged by @galadrieljones, @wardsarefunctioning and @chillyrose!

Elia Lavellan (romance: Solas)

image

Elia is not much of a flirt. She expresses her interest (romantic or platonic) by listening carefully and asking thoughtful questions. For Solas specifically, if the Fade Kiss™ hadn’t happened, she would have eventually just told him she liked him with no guile whatsoever.

Arya Lavellan (romance: Blackwall)

image

Arya is my Smooth Operator™. She is an excellent flirt. She could charm the pants off of anyone. She uses all the tricks: subtle but sexy body language, coy facial expressions, subtle (or not-so-subtle) flattery, touching, you name it. In Blackwall’s case, ARYA USED FLIRTING AND IT WAS SUPER EFFECTIVE. He was dead in the water from her very first smile.

Athera Lavellan (romance: Abelas)

image

Athera is a sweet-natured goof. She cracks jokes like a fiend, but she gets flustered around people she has a crush on, especially when said person is a cranky ancient Sentinel. She’s the definition of adorkable.

Rynne Hawke (romance: Fenris)

image

Hawke has no chill and no filter. Her approach to wooing Fenris is basically to proposition him so outrageously and so frequently that he’ll eventually give in. She’s joking half the time, though, of course! (Or is she?) She flirts with everyone this way. (But she means it with Fenris.) Wait, what?

Yes, she’s confused too. And so is Fenris.

Bonus: Nil (Horizon Zero Dawn)

image

Obviously Nil isn’t my OC, but I’ve written so much about him that I kind of see him as one? Anyway, Nil essentially flirts by just flat-out telling Aloy that he likes her and why he likes her, often in his own special way that I like to call “bloody poetry” lol. He doesn’t play games because he doesn’t know how or see the purpose of them. Once they’re in an established relationship he flirts with Aloy/gets her attention when she’s busy by playfully teasing her.

15 Questions Meme

I was tagged by @thevikingwomanand @galadrieljones! Thanks friends! 🙂

answer 15 qs and then tag 15 mutuals 🙂

Are you named after someone? Yes. I am literally named after my mother. We also are both published in academic journals so we both use our middle initials out of habit like pretentious jerks. (I dislike my IRL name in case this wasn’t clear.)

When was the last time you cried? On Tuesday while watching season 3 of Daredevil. Someone died and I BAWLED LIKE A DAMN BABY.

Do you have kids? Nope.

Do you use sarcasm a lot? Ummm, not really? I don’t think? I use wit and cheek more than outright sarcasm.

What’s the first thing you notice about people? Height, eyes, and mouth I guess? Hey, fun fact, there was this research article I read once that used eye tracking and found that people from different ethnic backgrounds tend to focus on different facial features. That sounds vague, yes, but mainly because I can’t remember the details of the article and I don’t want to say something erroneous 😅

What’s your eye colour? Brown.

Scary Movies or Happy Endings? Both, depending on my mood! But I definitely watch more movies with happy endings than scary movies.

Any special talents? I feel like writing is a pretty decent talent of mine, as well as a joy. I’m also a good listener.

Where were you born? Toronto, Canada.

What are your hobbies? Writing, video games, TV and movies, and discussing video games/TV/movies in exhaustive and fervent detail with the fiancé.

Do you have any pets? Yes! A cat named Meeko. She is my furbaby.

How tall are you? Approx. 5′3″

What sports do you play/have you played? None. I don’t like competitive sports. I used to be on the volleyball team when I was 12, but I’m left-handed and I had a lot of trouble not serving into the wall, if that makes sense, and it was really humiliating so I quit. Clearly it scarred me for life. LMAO

Favourite subject at school? Uhh let’s go with favourite undergrad course. I took a class called Writing Systems, which was a linguistics course focusing on the different ways that language is represented in written form across the world and through history. That was my favourite and most interesting class of all time.

Dream job? If I stayed in healthcare, I would want to be a psychotherapist. If I worked in a different field, I would want to be a fiction/romance/fantasy editor.

TUTORIAL: An amazing little piece of code for reviewing fics in SUPER DETAIL on AO3

pikapeppa:

I love getting comments on my fics – hell, who doesn’t? – and REALLY long comments give me so much life and joy (@hellarcanine , here’s looking at you!). I’ve always wanted to be able to share that joy with other writers as well.

@writerlyonao3 recently tuned me into a really sweet little browser add-on that lets you review fics on AO3 in real-time, with a floating text box that stays in place while you read and automatically inputs your text into the comment box. And it’s FUCKING MAGICAL.

I’m a total coding noob, so consider this the Tutorial for Idiot Dummies, with links. This is for those who use the Chrome browser.

1. Install the Tampermonkey add-on for Chrome.
2. Click on the Tampermonkey button; for me, it shows up on the right side of the search bar on my browser.
3.  Click “Create a new script…” and a new Tampermonkey tab will pop up containing some code. Delete the code in that box.
4. Go to this pastebin link. Scroll down to where it says “RAW paste data”. Select and copy all the code in that box.
5. Return to the Tampermonkey tab. Paste the code into that box, and Save (the good old floppy disk button).
6. Go to a fic on AO3 that you want to review. There should be a new button at the top of the page that says Floaty Review Box.
7. Follow the instructions here to learn what the Floaty Review Box can do.
8. WRITE LONG REVIEWS FOR YOUR FAVOURITE WRITERS!!!!

I take no credit for any of this magic – just passing on the love and amazingness.

Reblogging because long reviews are the best!!! Give your favourite writers a little joy!!
